A Hudson Bay Company post was established at the north end of the Seymour Arm of Shuswap Lake, called Ogdensville or Ogden City, named after Charles Ogden who was in charge of H.B.C. operations. In it was renamed Seymour Arm.
The Big Bend Gold Rush brought hundreds of miners. Supplies and food came by boat. At the head of Seymour Arm, Seymour City (Ogdensville) was built with six saloons, 13 stores, five bakeries and one bathhouse, serving the gold seekers for two years before the town was deserted.
